Jimmy Choo Mens SS12

Style :

As I left Pitti last week and continued to Milan, the fun in Florence started and the same happened as I left Milan - fashion week started and I was back in the UK. But thanks to Jimmy Choo, who kindly invited me to the mens presentation, I - and you - can have a look at their SS12 range

These showroom images are from AW11 but as you can see, the surroundings are sumptuous and the brand's taste for interior presenting is as impeccable as their shoes.

The inspiration are the impeccably attired British style icons such as Peter Sellers and Michael Caine with nods to the kinky art of Allen Jones and the rebellious vibe of the Rolling Stones. This is a really incredible fusion of modern British style with luxurious Italian craftsmanship which, I think, is the perfect balance of fashion with impeccable craftsmanship and classic design - and an inevitable drain on my bank balance.

For those who saw the AW11 collection can see that is a great development and is, with the inclusion of more street style sneakers, a diverse offering, as Choo put it, for the cool urban man. On top of this extension are driving shoes, sandals, small leather goods and belts which come in a rich pallet of black, khaki, tan, chocolate and Marlboro red with pops of hues of Yves Klein blue and yellow. Now, I work with colour everyday and as an ex-Marlboro know which the red shade is, but Yves Klein escapes me.

As you can see after these shots, of the full collection, the SS12 offering sees the return of the James Bond-inspired paisley velvet jacquard, which features hidden burlesque silhouettes in pink and turquoise colour ways. There is also an exotic inclusion of genuine crocodile, python, hand burnished calf, classic spazzolato, washed deer skin, exotic stamped leathers and printed hair calf all with hand crafted English pewter hardware. These details just get better and better, so read on to see what they look like...

I really think this a simplistic yet luxurious collection but also retains a sense of masculinity and combines classic detailing in contemporary profiles. The collection, according to Choo, explores several constructions: supple classic sueded soles, a refined tubular construction, lacquer soles and tougher constructions such as lug and cuoio fused boot soles and a croc de-bossed trainer. The shoes and boots have the essence of bench made footwear realized in a lighter than expected structure which is trending for the SS12 season and beyond and it is incredibly comfortable.

Who knew, luxury footwear that is comfortable!
