Graduate Fashion Week x Georgia Smith

Style :

Name, age and program of study?
My name is Georgia Smith, I am 21 and studied BA Hons Fashion Design at De Montfort University.

What is the inspiration beind your collection?
The original inspiration for this collection came from the Mods's and Skinheads sub-cultures of the 60's. Combining the modern day "Chav" with a vibrant colour palette gives the collection a modern edge.
Unique waterproof fabrics were created by painting latex on chiffon (red quilted jacket) the use of other sport fabrics such as airtex, reflective material and creased aluminium shot fabric highlights the "chav chic" feel of the collection.

The Italian wools and chiffon give a clean finish contrasting to the hard, rough bleached out denims and frayed finishes. I design in a very masculine way, so I wanted to break up the hard silhouettes by introducing softer fabrics and lines such as the chiffon polo shirts.

Who is the collection is aimed at?
My Muse is an 18-35 year old Male. Lives in and works in London and socialises in understated, quirky bars.  He has an eccentric, rough edge and mixes sportswear and casual dress with tailoring. His independence and confidence means he can pull off clashing colours and prints.  He has a high disposable income so can afford one off pieces.

I feel my work is similar to new generation designers such as Christopher Shannon, we both experiment combining sportswear and classic tailoring. More established designers such as Dries Van Noten, Raf Simons and Burberry design statement outerwear pieces, which is a signature within my designs.

Some items in my collection I could see being stocked in department stores such as Selfridges, Harvey Nichols (London), internationally Opening Ceremony (LA), Addicted (S.Korea) and Hunting and Collecting (Brussels, Belgium).
The concept pieces would be sold in Dover street market (London), and Jibberish clothing company (USA).

What is the price point of the collection?
Prices within my collection range from £50 –shirts- £70-110 –Jeans, and the coats from £200

What you want to do in the future?
I would love to work for some well knows designers or high street brands and gain valuable work experience within the industry. I am mainly interested in the design field, but I would like the opportunity to try other things.
