Marni SS12

Style :

Marni is a stunning label for the adventurous and playful so it is quite apt that the SS11 collection is inspired by the great outdoors with refined, utilitarian details. Clothes suitable for the big city or the big escape gives wearers a sense of freedom and adventure, which as you can see, runs through the Marni Man collection. The execution is precise, the tone graphic with plenty of block colors, intarsia, idiosyncratic contraposition of forms and
materials. Yet, a new sense of ease steps in, there is a sense of it opening up to possibility and begins to fill itself with a host of contradictions such as the touches of odd color and a nod to the pre-sportswear of the 70s replace romanticism.

Everything is light to the touch. Double layers and intarsia create relaxed geometries on shirts and shorts whilst striped blazer-and-bermuda combos have the nonchalant ease of long-worn favorites. What is great also is the part that are highlighted rather than hidden: contrast details on parkas give an abstract twist to utilitarianism and knit collars are attached to stripy shirts. This sense of fun does not get boring and continues as long knits are deliberately put out of context under suits, suggesting a carefree approach to dressing;

As we saw during the heat-wave, shorts are a key item but are slouchy neat which are also worn with graphic patterns and lace-ups and socks which meant for a walk in the woods - particularly with the cuffed trousers

It is an excellent collection that will no doubt leave me, and other lovers of the brand, a little poorer this season.
