LA Diary: CLAD x JC Penny

Despite the news of the American economy turmoil making world-wide headlines, today it was announced that retailer JC Penny and Esquire magazine are to launch Clad, an e-commerce site that will launch later this month. Really, you may ask? Well JC Penny will provide the e-tail how and Esquire will feature some editorial content to engage readers and shoppers alike.

Penny's and Esquire are at the polar ends of menswear but this seemingly exciting partnership will include a roster of brands that seem to be more Esquire than Penny's. With Michael Kors, Jack Spade, Rag & Bone, Cole Haan, Redwing, Vince, Seven for All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, Joe’s Jeans, Hickey Freeman, Ben Sherman, Levi’s, Tumi, Malin + Goetz, Billy Jealousy and Kale Naturals, it is a collection of names to be proud of.

If you are still as confused as I am to the partnership, the information released stresses that there are no similarities to the JC Penny stores which are, well, a little tired and dated. But this is a great progression for the store that is looking to re-capture the important 24-54 year old market who may not follow runway fashion but nor want to look like they have no clue about style.

JC Penny has a few stores around LA, with a main store at Fox Hills Mall in Culver City.
